Two Left Feet - Cast & Production Needs
Production Needs
Time - The Present
Place - Here
Costume Notes
- Taylor is to be clad from head to foot in black - hands, head, perhaps even face. The one exception, the left foot is covered in a long blue sock.
- Jamie, throughout, is mourning.
- Third has three guises - a military official, a mother/father to Jamie (depending on gender of the actor), and a civilian also in mourning like Jamie.
- There are very few specific notes in the script about costumes. In the original production, there was a prologue set to the end of the Mountain Goats’ song “Sax Rohmer #1,” in which Taylor was shown first in a blood-spattered T-shirt and dog tags, and Jamie was shown in casual clothes. Over the course of the music, Taylor suited up in black, and put on the blue sock, while Jamie got into clothes more appropriate to a mourning period. Directors and actors are encouraged to use their imagination in telling the story and creating a look for the five characters.
Set/Prop Notes
- Taylor’s blue foot stands in a tiny coffin (it could be as simple as a shoebox), draped with or decorated like a small flag of the United States of America.
- Nothing else is indicated in the script as being necessary to produce the play. In the original production, Jamie was actually presented with an American flag. There was a ladder placed onstage and the flag and the blue sock were both draped at the end over the ladder, creating a monument. Jamie’s mother spent part of her time peeling carrots. Directors and actors are encouraged to create whatever world they see fit around these characters and their story.
