DAD crosses to DOROTHY (in her 60s/70s) in another pool of light.

DOROTHY

Good morning, dear.

DAD

Good morning.
I have whats probably going to sound like a strange question.

DOROTHY

Whats that?

DAD

Where are we?

DOROTHY

What do you mean, where are we?

DAD

I know were home.

DOROTHY

Yes.

DAD

Where is home?

DOROTHY

Where - ?

DAD

- is home?

DOROTHY

You dont know where we are?

DAD

No, Im afraid not.

DOROTHY

Has this happened before?

DAD

If it has, I dont remember. I think I would have asked you, like Im asking you now.

DOROTHY

Youre probably right.

DAD

Where are we?

DOROTHY

We live in the town of Oak Bluffs.

DAD

Yes.

DOROTHY

Which is on an island called Marthas Vineyard.

DAD

Which is off the coast of Massachusetts.

DOROTHY

Yes.

DAD

Well. Now how do you suppose I forgot all that?

DOROTHY

I dont know, honey. Im sorry.

DAD

Thats not all.

DOROTHY

Oh.

DAD

What day is it? Whats the date?

DOROTHY

January 14, 2010.

DAD

Didnt know that either.

DOROTHY

Not any of it?

DAD

I know Obamas president.

DOROTHY

Yes.

DAD

We didnt vote for him.

DOROTHY

No.

DAD

Ive grown to like him, though. Almost in spite of myself.

DOROTHY

Thats true.

DAD

I grew up in Colorado.

DOROTHY

Yes.

DAD

But now I root for the New England Patriots.

DOROTHY

Thats right.

DAD

I have to admit thats easier than the Broncos most of the time.

DOROTHY

Also true.

DAD

I know who you are. Dont worry.

DOROTHY

I wouldnt hold it against you.

DAD

But youre not my first wife, are you?

DOROTHY

No.

DAD

Or my second.

DOROTHY

No.

DAD

Youre my best, though.

DOROTHY

You havent forgotten how to charm me, either, I see.

DAD

This is going to get complicated, isnt it?

DOROTHY

Very likely.

DAD

Nice thing about being retired, at least I dont have anything more pressing than doctor appointments to try and remember.

DOROTHY

I was tracking all those for us anyway.

DAD

So what day it is, one day to the next, doesnt much matter.

DOROTHY

Just as long as we have the days together.

DAD

We should probably call the children, let them know.

DOROTHY

Yes.
