DAD and DAVID appear in different pools of light on stage.

DAD is asleep in bed. DAD is in his 70s/80s.

DAVID is in his late 40s/ early 50s.

DAD wakes up.

They speak to the audience, sometimes also to each other.

DAD

I woke up.
And I didnt know where I was.

DAVID

This isnt a horror story.
Not for him.

DAD

I knew somehow I was home.
That I was supposed to be there.
The place looked familiar.
Home.
I just didnt know where home was.

DAVID

Im not sure why it feels like a horror story to me.
When I break it down, try to rationalize it, the fear seems selfish.

DAD

I didnt remember what day of the week it was.
What month it was.
What year it was.

DAVID

Ive lost count of the many different ways this terrifies me. I foolishly think Ive finally reached the bottom of it. Then I think of something more.

DAD

Im kind of surprised I didnt panic.
I suppose I should be glad or proud I didnt panic.
Place? Day? Month? Year?
Nothing.
Hmmm.
Thats odd.

DAVID

This was when we started to lose my father.
